Town Hall: Cleveland’s Healthiest Food Spot (add it to your bucket list!)

When I travel my favorite activity is eating at the most popular (and healthy!) food establishments. While vacation should be a time for trying new foods and experiences, I find it to be especially important for me to stick to my eating patterns as much as possible because if I don’t I’ll come home with a stomachache that lasts for days. It’s just not worth it. I’ve embraced the challenges of  traveling that come with being gluten-free and dairy-free and luckily as more and more establishments cater to inviduauls with these dietary limitations, it has become easier to stick to my diet while on the road. But don’t get me wrong I still allow myself little indulgences here and there 🙂

Over the years I have developed a knack  for tracking down the healthiest food spots a city has to offer. My radar is peeled and I always do my research before hand. Although on a recent trip to visit my family in Cleveland the guess work was done for me as my Aunt recommended one place in particular : Town Hall!

I am honestly not exaggerating when I say that this may be one of the healthiest restaurants i’ve ever encountered, which is not surprising based on their mission as stated on the menu – “to love and serve our employees and guests”. Town Hall accomplishes this  by only offering the highest quality ingredients that feed the body and soul of its patrons:

  • 100% Non-Gmo Restaurant
  • Wide variety of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. They even have a special Monday night menu for vegans along with a Wednesday night menu for Paleo followers!
  • And to top it off, they are working towards adopting a fully organic menu. Currently all their cold-pressed juices and smoothies are organic!

Let me say this is the FIRST restaurant i’ve ever patronized that offers Bone Broth!!! I am sad to say I didn’t get a chance to sample it ,but the mere fact it was offered was a huge surprise. I should have asked whether they make it in house or not. I hope this is a trend that expands to other food establishments. I have not yet written on my blog about my experience with bone broth, but its a staple in my diet especially when my system needs a break from digestion. The nutritional content and health benefits of bone broth are  impressive, especially for those with digestive disorders.

I am not a coffee drinker but if I were this seems like  the place for my ideal cup of joe that my body would feel good about!

I’ve never before seen “zero toxin coffee” but the fact that Town Hall procures 100%organic coffee that is tested for mycotoxins set this place apart from the rest!

What really sealed the deal for me are their numerous options of Matcha tea which is my caffeine of choice!

I was astounded to find that EVERY item on this menu, except one is gluten free or could be prepared gluten free! That is unheard of in most restaurants.

Town Hall ‘s Wellness Guide at the top of their menu promotes their mission ” to love and serve their guests” because what better way to do this than by having a menu that caters to all the possible needs of your patrons.

And it only gets better…just by looking at the menu you can see how inventive and unique the dishes are from the Unfried Asian Chicken Club Sandwich (more on this later) to the Paella Flatbread.. And two words for you: Earth Bites. It says it all in the name……

I was able to try two of the Earth Bites (shown below). They were both sensational. The flavor combinations were delicious and complemented the natural flavor of the produce. What I loved about these earth bites was that the vegetable was the focus and the sauce/ flavoring was the accent. You can really feel good about eating these Earth Bites!

I also highly recommend the Sweet Potato Skins, which we shared as another appetizer.  The combination of sweet potato and pulled chipotle chicken with just the right amount of tangy aioli was delicious!

For the main course we shared these plates. My favorite was definitely the Unfired Asian Chicken Club! Instead of your typical breaded and fried chicken sandwich this one was coated in a gluten free cashew crust that was so tasty you couldn’t even notice a difference! I even got a healthy dose of probiotics as the sandwich was topped with kimchi slaw 🙂 To add to the amazingness of the dish, the gluten free bun was so tasty and not reminiscent of cardboard, which I often find to be the standard gluten free option in restaurants. At Town Hall the gluten free patrons are not an afterthought, they are the focus ,which is why everything was so lovingly created and superbly delicious! On the side I ordered grain free tabouleh. They cleverly substituted the wheat barley for cauliflower rice and cashews.

My friend who joined us ordered the Wild Poke Bowl and he cleaned his plate 🙂

Confession:  not all this food was consumed in one sitting since we ate here twice in one day ! haha

If you are wondering how that happened, well I only had one day to spend in downtown Cleveland and rather than take a chance on another restaurant I might not like, we decided it would be fun to explore more of Town Hall’s menu. So that’s how we ended up eating lunch and dinner here. The highlight was  meeting my best friend’s boyfriend (photo below) there for dinner who recently moved up to cleveland for work.

We topped off our delicious dinner with  ice cream at the famous Mitchell’s Homemade, which is conveniently just a few doors down from Town Hall. I got the Vegan Salted Caramel Pecan, which is the BEST vegan ice-cream i’ve ever had!! First, it is just as satisfyingly creamy as regular milk ice cream and the combination of toasted pecan butter, sea salt and brown sugar is just too delicious for words.

If you have time I also highly recommend taking  a walk through the famous Westside market! The market is on the same street as Town Hall and it’s a beautiful architectural gem with countless vendors inside selling all types of food! It’s worth a visit 🙂

I am now determined to make Town Hall a staple on my visits to Cleveland. I look forward to the day when more establishments offer as many health and versatile options as Town Hall. I wish they delivered!!

Let me know in the comments below if you’ve ever visited my hometown of Cleveland!

Warmly,

Autumn
